Warm feeling of success at a cold Nottingham Regatta.
Last weekend saw some of the coldest weather of the winter, but for local Hampton Hill Tom Hide of Addlestone Canoe Club showed some early season form to the countries top Junior sprint Kayakers at Nottinghams first Regatta of the year.

Tom continued his fine form of last year, by dominating the Junior Mens K1 racing winning both the 500m and 1000m distances. In the 500m on Saturday he delivered a time of 1m 45s and on Sunday in the 1000m event he posted 3m 49s. In both events he finished ahead of Ed Rutherford his rival and training partner from Elmbridge Canoe Club. Tom and Ed then joined forces in the K2 event, winning both the 500m and 1000m.

Tom looked comfortable from start to finish in both events and it bodes well for this his final year as a Junior. He and a squad of junior paddlers now set off for a 2 week training camp in Hungary to continue their preparation for International events later in the summer. The campaign for Junior European medals in Hungary in July has begun in earnest. The next regatta at Nottingham over the first weekend of May is the selection event for the International season through the summer.
