Kayaker Tim tips Tom to make 2012.
World 1,000m K1 sprint kayak champion Tim Brabants has tipped Brooklands College student Tom Hide to be make big waves in the sport and become an Olympic star in 2012, writes Gerard Meagher.

The 17-year-old Addlestone Canoe Club member picked up the OCS London Sports Person of the Year award during a star-studded ceremony at the Brit Oval last week.
Hampton Hill-based Hide represented Great Britain at the Junior European Championships in Serbia and the World Championships in the Czech Republic this season.

And Brabants, an Olympic bronze medalist himself, believes Hide has every chance of lining up for his country at the London games in five years' time.
"Tom has the dedication and the commitment to excel in the future," he said.
"2012 is a real possibility judging by what Tom has already achieved at such a young age. At 17 I was not at such a high standard."

Hide took up canoeing five years ago as a bit of fun' and has since progressed to be part of the World Class Programme, which identifies and supports potential 2012 Olympians.

The youngster is also a member of the Royal Canoe Club in Kingston, where he trains alongside Brabant, and is already determined to follow him in to the Great Britain senior squad.

But he refuses to get carried away, admitting the joy of getting on the water makes up for the difficulties of juggling his training regime and A-level studies..
